Professional Development

The Division of Graduate Studies supports graduate students and postdoctoral scholars with professional development through instructional presentations, panel discussions, workshops, and other events. Two certificate programs, the fall Professional Communication and winter Leadership, are open just to graduate students. Programming explores potential careers within and without academia and how to prepare for and transition into those careers. We partner with the Graduate Student Commons, its graduate-student governance board, the Division of Student Affairs and Success, the Career Center, the Center for Innovations in Teaching and Learning (CITL), the University Library, The Humanities Institute, the Title IX Office, the Disability Resource Center, International Student and Scholar Services, the Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the Office of Research, the UCSC STEAM [Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Humanities, and Mathematics] Postdoc Association (USPA), and University Relations to provide programming focused on graduate student and postdoctoral scholar career building.
