Graduate Student Commons and Graduate Student Life

The Graduate Student Commons is located in Quarry Plaza. In the UC Santa Cruz interactive campus map’s search field (upper-right corner, marked with a magnifying glass icon to the right of the entry field), enter “Graduate Student Commons.” Graduate students have access to the Commons 24 hours per day, 7 days per week during the academic year, fall through spring quarters. If you are a new graduate student, visit the Commons during regular business hours to have your student ID card programmed to admit you during non-business hours, fall through spring.

In addition to an entrance lounge, balcony overlooking Quarry Plaza, spacious fireside lounge, kitchenette, study lounge, and two study rooms, the Commons houses the offices of Director of Graduate Student Life Rachel Neuman and a graduate student intern. The graduate student governance board of the Commons meet in the facility and plan events for graduate students, including the academic year’s First Friday socials at the Commons. Find events happening at the Commons or outings organized by its governance board on the Commons Events Calendar.
