Through a grant awarded to UCSC by the National Science Foundation, in the Spring of 2010 UCSC will launch a Ethics and Justice in Science and Engineering Training program. This program grows out of the success of the UCSC Science and Justice Working Group, and will create a research and education program that trains science and engineering graduate students alongside social science and humanities graduate students to create ethical inquiries from within their own practice. The Investment in Community Fellowship is awarded each year to a deserving graduate student who was born, raised or has lived on the Monterey Peninsula and who intends to return to the area and be of service to the local community after completing his/her graduate degree. The award can be used to cover the ordinary costs of graduate school including tuition, books, room and board.
Completed applications must be received by: January 31, 2010. Fellowship to be awarded Spring 2010.

THE COLUMBIA SOCIETY OF FELLOWS IN THE HUMANITIES, with grants from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the William R. Kenan Trust, will appoint a number of post-doctoral fellows in the humanities for the academic year 2010-2011. We invite applications from qualified candidates who have received the Ph.D. between 1 January 2006 and 1 July 2010.
Fellows are appointed as Lecturers in appropriate departments at Columbia University and as postdoctoral research fellows. The fellowship is renewable for a second and third year. In the first year, Fellows teach one course per semester: at least one of these courses will be in the undergraduate general education program of the University. In years two and three, Fellows teach one course per year. In addition to teaching and research, the duties of Fellows include attendance at the Society's lectures and events as well as active participation in the intellectual life of the Society and of the department with which the Fellow is affiliated. The annual stipend will be $55,000. Each Fellow will also receive a research allowance of $5,000 per annum.
